Childhood friends Baso Fibonacci and Zach Rockstad are Seattle-based artists who share similar backgrounds. Growing up, both were deeply involved in urban youth culture, especially skateboarding and graffiti. This exhibition of recent work explores how those influences have shaped their artistic development.
Both artists are skilled technicians who use their work to draw attention to the often overlooked beauty and chaos of urban life. Fibonacci’s last exhibition and accompanying book confront the tragic impact of the fentanyl epidemic, offering a powerful memorial to those lost through addiction. Rockstad, through his commercial work in mural and sign painting, creates layered images—both recognizable and abstract—that reflect the turbulence of our contemporary world.
This exhibition, of paintings, mixed media, and other works—ranging from nudes to arresting op-art still-lifes—is an edgy, yet humorous and inviting exploration of the two artists’ development and recognition of their roots.
